[1] Thanks for joining us Angie! So tell me why are you running?
Posted by em dash at Friday, September 16, 2005 13:02:08
[2] How will you connect with the many new residence that are moving in to the district?

[3] I have special concerns about workplace issues. One issue that has been virtually ignored is privatization of public services, except for the mindless cheerleding of far right groups like the Independence Institute and the Reason Public Policy Institute. Their only claim is that private is better. Yet all serious studies find many problems with contracting out. (I have several posts on this issue).
Will you examine this issue and consider taking action to protect the public from the risks caused by contracting out public work?

[4] Hi em, Thanks for having me on today.
I'm running very simply because it is very clear that we need new leadership in Congress. Musgrave caters to Tom DeLay and special interests. We need a Representative who caters to our needs!
Posted by Angie at Friday, September 16, 2005 13:05:55
[5] If Democrats make substantial gains in the House and Senate in 2006, would you support impeachment efforts of Mr. Bush?
Posted by Steve from CO at Friday, September 16, 2005 13:07:23
[6] Thanks Angie. I like your style -- succinct and clear: "Musgrave caters to Tom DeLay and special interests."
You've got my vote!

Great to see a strong candidate running against Musgrave... What is the makeup of the voting base of CO_4 and how will you target swing voters?

[8] Sorry if this is too personal Ms. Paccione, but I noticed on your website that you say the most important thing in your life is your relationship with God.
How would you say your religion influences your politics, and your life in general?

[9] Here was a question left on the prior post about the announcement:
Awesome news!! Angie, will you be at the "Musgrave Must Go" fundraiser for the Larimer Dems this evening?

Posted by shirah at Friday, September 16, 2005 13:10:35
[10] Shirah,
Thanks for the question. I agree with you. We can't run a government by private contracts... Katrina is a great example of why we need the government to help in meeting the needs of the people.
Pacified:
I'm meeting many of the new residents... they have similar concerns as many Americans...

[12] I would recommend getting in contact with Rep. Moore's people in KS-3. He ran as a challenger in '98 to unseat a very conservative GOP incumbent.
I managed the Coordinated Campaign for his race in '04 and I see many parallels between your district and KS-3. If the Co. State Dem Party is willing to help as KS Dems did, you could pull off a similar upset under favorable political conditions that Rep. Moore didn't even have when he was a challenger.

[13] I guess a website address would be helpful too.

[15] Yes, I'll be at the fundraiser tonight... PLease bring a check if you come!
As for my relationship with God: I have been an evangelical Christian for 25 years... I understand the critical importance of separating Church and State. I believe I will be able to "speak truth" to the Christian powers that be. The gospel is about tolerance, not hate.

[18] AJ-
Thanks for the tip... I'll check it out...

[19] I don't have a question, but just wanted to say thanks, Angie! It's great to see a candidate willing to be a part of the blogs and answer people's questions. You have my support!

[20] Weld County's voting population seems pivotal to winning in CD4. We're so diverse northeast to southwest and Fort Lupton north and even within Greeley-Evans. Hope you can find ways to sort out and shift people's old voting habits and appeal to all the different communities in Weld.

[21] Ian-
There's a 60K difference in voter registration with the advantage to the Rs, however there are a lot of unaffiliated and many disgruntled moderate Rs in the 4th. Her re-elect is 36% and we will address issues that matter to the majority of voters in the 4th.

[22] If you'd like to support Angie's candidacy, please add 72-cents to track it as an Unbossed tribute to 1972 Presidential candidate Shirley Chisholm, our blog's inspiration.

[23] Thanks to all of you who expressed support! I am starting early in order to reach those very voters you mention in Weld and throughout the 4th (a huge geogr district!).

[26] On Latino voters. I understand that high % are registered, but they do not vote.
What will you do to understand their issues and persuade them to vote and vote for you?
And FYI there are some recent studies in Latinos, how they are treated in the education system, and their inclusion in US society.

[27] Thanks for everyone's enthusiasm. We've got quite the battle on our hands in CD-4 and I'll be relying on you all to keep us ahead of the curve.
Let's keep this conversation going until our victory party in November 2006!
Unbossed readers rock!

[28] Shirah,
Many Latino voters don't vote because they don't see themselves represented in the candidate. They don't believe people are listening to their needs. As a congresswoman I intend to reach out to all Coloradoans in the 4th including Latinos. I'm listening!

[29] Thanks to everyone who has participated today. em dash: I hope you'll invite me back as the conversation continues...

[30] Much legislation in Congress pits the interests of business owners against the interests of workers and consumers. Whose side will you be on? A Democrat allied with the Larimer County Democratic Party's "Democratic Business Coalition" or with the Democratic Leadership Council won't inspire people who work in Wal-Mart, or at gas stations in Fort Morgan, etc., to come out and vote for a Democrat. We need someone who will fight for us workers, not for corporate interests. Will you fight for us?

[31] While the live blogging portion of this thread is over now, please continue to leave your comments and questions here.
Angie is an Unbossed reader and I know she visits frequently.
My shining moment at a meeting with Angie and some folks with the Larimer County Dems when somebody mentioned Unbossed. Angie shouted out across the room "You're em dash! I'm in the company of a blogging giant?"
Made my day.

Despite my residence here in Houston (or perhaps because of it..), I rejoice in the news that anyone who's willing to honestly confront those our national media laughingly refer to leaders... I applaud your efforts and when I'm able, I'll gladly contribute to the cause...

[33] I'm sorry to have missed Angie being live here (my work's interfering with my blogging again), but I do have a couple of comments for her:
First, best of luck -- anyone working to replace a special-interest toady in order to work on behalf of the people has my support. Second, I hope that if you're elected, you'll support full Congressional voting representation for residents of the District of Columbia (see dcvote.org for more info on this issue).
Thanks to our own blogging giant, em dash, for arranging this!

[35] I am a little shy of supporting candidates that are close to their god. I prefer politicians who put the Constitution and the Bill of Rights before anything else. Our founding fathers, Washington, Jefferson, Madison, Hamilton, believe in a god; but as Deists, they did not believe in religion. They did not believe mortal man could divine the god’s will. Ben Franklin was an atheist. As non-Christians, these visionary men would never have a political life today. Their political beliefs would be confined to blogs.
On the other hand, I know not all Evangelicals want to burn books and stone unwed mothers. It is just there are so many of these fanatics out there that they give all people of faith – especially Born Again Christians and Evangelicals – a bad name.
Were it not for satellite images, they would be insisting the Earth is flat.
I cannot vote for you because I live outside your jurisdiction, but just for my peace of mind can you tell me: Do you believe in the Theory of Evolution?

Unbossed was founded in 1897 by poor, but honest, immigrants. It flourished during the turn of the century -- marching with the suffragists and helping organize labor unions -- only to wither during the Great Depression.
